Magnolia Gardens is located on a secluded 6-acre site in Suffolk, Virginia at 219 Prospect Road surrounded by a wall of trees.
Magnolia Gardens was constructed in 2001 to assist in offering housing for extremely low income elderly residents, 62 years or older. This was accomplished through HUD's Section 202 housing program which provides a subsidy so residents pay 30% of their adjusted income for rent and included utilities.
Magnolia Gardens is a three story building with 67 one bedroom apartments that consist of a combined kitchen/dining/area, living room, bedroom and bath. The facility is fully handicapped accessible with each apartment having two emergency medical pulls installed.
A video security system permits residents to monitor the front entrance. The front entrance has a dial in system that allows guests to contact the resident. All exterior doors are alarmed to alert staff and residents of any unauthorized entry. A onsite manager/security is available during off hours.
Magnolia Gardens has extensive community space which is available to all residents. All three floors have lounge and activity areas. A library is located on the second floor. A large multipurpose community room on the first floor has a television and a refreshment area. The laundry room is located adjacent to the community room. Several local stores are within walking distance and local bus service is provided to the front entrance.
