Magnolia Gardens
Magnolia Gardens is a 68-unit apartment facility for low-income elderly who are at least 62 years
old. It is located on a 6-acre site in Suffolk, Virginia at the end of Prospect Road
Magnolia Gardens is owned by Magnolia Gardens, Inc., a "sister corporation" to Norfolk Urban
Outreach Ministry. The owner is a nonprofit corporation.
All apartments at Magnolia Gardens carry Section 8 rental subsidy, permitting residents to pay 30% of their adjusted income for rent and utilities.
Magnolia Gardens contains 67 one-bedroom apartments consisting of a kitchen/dining/living area, bathroom, and bedroom. The facility is fully accessible to the handicapped. It is fully sprinkled for
fire suppression. Each apartment is equipped with emergency pull cords to summon assistance, if needed. Apartments are wired for cable TV. A video security system permits residents to monitor
the entrance door, and all exterior doors are alarmed to alert residents and staff of unauthorized entry into the building.
Magnolia Gardens has extensive community space, available to all residents. All three floors contain lounge and activity areas. The large Multipurpose Room off the first floor lobby has a Refreshment
Area and Laundry Room. Shopping is within walking distance.
The building is heated and cooled by a central system, with individual thermostats in each apartment.
Special effort has been made to keep this facility energy and maintenance efficient.
Construction of Magnolia Gardens began in January of 2000. The building was dedicated on March 6, 2003.
