Trinity Woods Trinity Woods is a 71-unit apartment facility for low-income elderly who are at least 62 years old. It is located on a 5-acre wooded site in Emporia, Virginia at the west end of Second Street. Trinity Woods is owned by Trinity Woods, Inc., a "sister corporation" to Norfolk Urban Outreach Ministry. The owner is a nonprofit corporation. All apartments at Trinity Woods carry Section 8 rental subsidy, permitting residents to pay 30% of their adjusted income for rent and utilities. Trinity Woods contains 70 one-bedroom apartments consisting of a kitchen/dining/living area, bathroom, and bedroom. The facility is fully accessible to the handicapped. It is fully sprinkled for fire suppression. Each apartment is equipped with emergency pull cords to summon assistance, if needed. Apartments are wired for cable TV. A video security system permits residents to monitor the entrance door, and all exterior doors are alarmed to alert residents and staff of unauthorized entry into the building. Trinity Woods has extensive community space, available to all residents. The large wooded site provides a unique combination of lawns, landscaped area and virgin natural forest. All three floors contain lounge and activity areas. The large Multipurpose Room off the first floor lobby has a Refreshment Area and Laundry Room. Shopping is within walking distance. The building is heated and cooled by a central system, with individual thermostats in each apartment. A diesel generator provides emergency power in the event of power failure. Special effort has been made to keep this facility energy and maintenance efficient. Construction of Trinity Woods began in September of 1993.
